Cyanotype is the cornerstone of non-silver photography and one of the oldest, most enduring processes in this lineage. From its early use in botanical recording in the 19th century, it has carried a spirit of experimentation and wonder to the present. To mark the 200th anniversary of photography, the group exhibition As If Seeing, hosted by NOMAD NO MAD SPACE, honors the spirit of that history by stepping away from its historical uses and exploring the boundaries of the medium. The exhibition brings together artists working across different media, using cyanotype’s alternative nature, photosensitivity, irreversibility, and uncertainty as shared expressive elements. By the collision of open ended materials, the works construct meaning and form an organic dialogue amongst themselves.
